Yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must ensure emergency lighting is present, functional, and properly maintained. Testing must follow BS 5266-1.
Yes. After testing, you will receive a detailed emergency lighting test report confirming the results and any recommendations.
The engineer will simulate a power failure to check that all emergency luminaires and exit signs activate correctly, maintain sufficient brightness, and run for their rated duration (usually three hours).
Monthly functional tests are required to confirm basic operation. A full three-hour duration test must be carried out once a year. Five-yearly photometric testing is also recommended for commercial premises.
